Pissing People Off is Part of Reaching Your Full Potential

I read a great quote from Gina Bianchini [1] (co-founder of Ning):

Inherent in being proactive and trying things and not waiting to be told what to do is the fact that you’re going to fail, you’re going to make mistakes, and you’re probably going to piss people off. And if you’re not pissing people off, if you don’t have haters, if you’re not putting yourself in a situation that has some risks associated with it, you’re probably not going to realize your full potential.

I can identify with that. I suspect that “mistakes” can be interpreted differently depending on the context. Indeed, a mistake might simultaneously be a success by another measure.

Regardless of failures or mistakes, you still will piss some people off when you are proactive and/or trying to make a change for the better. Gina was talking in particular about women but it applies just as much to other genders.
